Important Information About Your Drinking Water
Humboldt Municipal Waterworks Failed to Report a Required Notification
Our water system, Humboldt Municipal Waterworks, recently failed to comply with a reporting requirement. Even though this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct the situation.
"We are required to report to the DNR when turbidity monitoring equipment is taken out of and returned to service within 24-hours. We are also required to return the equipment to service within 14 days. During the months of April and May 2020, we did not report the equipment being taken out or returned to service, nor did we return the equipment to service within 14 days."
What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do at this time. You may continue to drink the water. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, you will be notified within 24 hours.
What is being done?
We will report, within 24-hours, when a turbidity monitoring equipment is taken off line and returned to service. We will also ensure that the equipment is returned to service within 14 days. When equipment is taken offline grab samples are gathered every 4 hours, in accordance with Iowa DNR requirements.

If you are going to need childcare in the next 12 months, please contact Alissa at Humboldt County Development Association. This is a confidential survey to assess the childcare needs in Humboldt County and will function as a preregistration should a facility become available. The information needed is your name, the ages of children needing care, and the hours needed. Deadline is February 6. 515-332-2557 or Alissa@humboldtcountyiowa.com
Portions of 5th Street North will be closed tomorrow to repair a water main break. The blocks impacted are between 1st Ave North and 4th Ave North. The closure will start at 8:30am and will continue until the repair is completed. Thank you for your understanding as the frigid weather starts to impact the water and sewer infrastructure across the city.
Don't forget that snow ordinances start on December 1st. No parking on City streets between the hours of 3 am and 7 am from Dec. 1st to March 31st. Sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 12 hours of snowfall for commercial properties, or 24 hours for residential properties. No shoveling of snow into streets or alleys. The last days of the pool for the 2014 season are upon us! Quick get one last dip in the pool. The HFAC's open swim hours are Saturday 1-7 PM and Sunday 1-4 PM. The pool will continue to be open for a few morning programs, but open swim hours will be over due to the majority of the staff returning to school. Thanks to everyone for making this a safe and fun summer!
As many folks have already noticed, the preparations for work on Sumner bridge have already started. The crew will likely close the bridge permanently to traffic sometime shortly after the 10th of April to start demolition. This work will last throughout the next 8 months and leave us with a beautiful new bridge. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and make sure to be safe while detouring!
UPDATE: The Humboldt Family Aquatic Center (HFAC) is closed today and tomorrow for cleaning and shock chlorination. This unscheduled maintenance is due to cryptosporidium cases believed to be linked to the HFAC. A fact sheet is attached that provides information on the germ. The pool will reopen on Monday and the staff requests that anyone that has the symptoms listed not visit the pool until they pass. Also, please thoroughly wash all swimwear and objects that have come in contact with the pool water. This germ is extremely hardy and can survive normal chlorine levels at the pool. Click on the picture to see the fact sheet.
Rec Soccer has been cancelled due to the snow.
